Preparation for Passage

Procedures to get your VISA

Prepare following documents (until early April)

1. Prepare by yourself and send electronic file to IU staff:

a. Application for the certificate of eligibility (CoE). [updated form will be supplied from the webpages of Ministry of Justice (in Japanese)] *IU staff will ask academic affairs to get the official signature from dean.

b. Copy of passport (the page including your face and passport number).

c. Acceptance letter (LoA) of your university in Indonesia (Original or Legal copy).

d. Certificate of your scholarship (or copy of your bank account equivalent to 700,000 yen: you need to prove you have strong financial ties to Indonesia, and you (or your sponsor) have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Japan).

2. IU staff will prepare:

e. ID Photo (4x3cm).

f. LoA of Ibaraki university (via academic affairs) and its explanation (PWD = ******* Kaikan @ Ami campus).

g. A return addressed envelope (with the address of Ibaraki university written on the front and stamps for registered letter).

Application of CoE (May)

IU staff will submit above documents to the Tokyo regional immigration bureau (or Mito branch office). One to three months later, the CoE will be issued and be sent to IU. Then, IU staff will send the CoE, LoA of IU to the contact person of your university in Indonesia.

Acquiring your VISA in Indonesia

You need to apply for student visa at the embassy of Japan in Indonesia with some documents mentioned above (sent by Ibaraki university) and other documents prepared by applicant. This procedure takes approximately 4 business days and 3,250,000 Rp. as of September, 2012. You can check further information for visa application in webpages of the embassy of Japan.

Living cost components in case of DD student (Ms. Windi)

1. Dormitory (Apartment):12,000 (dorm) / 30,000~40,000 (apartment)

2. Electricity1): 3,000~3,500

3. Water bill: 3,100 (fixed)

4. Gas1): 3,000~3,500

5. Insurance2): 1,800~2,000

6. Personal care (soap, shampoo, etc.): 1,000

7. Food1): 30,000~40,000

Main expenditure: 53,900~65,100 (dormitory) / 71,900~93,100 (apartment)

Additional component (vary depend on personal life style)

8. Communication (cell phone)3): 6,000 (unlimited internet)

9. Transportation4): 5,000~10,000

10. Univ. related-fee (lab cost/party, etc.): 5,000~10,000

11. Books: 10,000

Additional expenses: 26,000~36,000

Note

1) Electricity and gas bill is contrary with food spending fee. If students can cook by themselves, electricity and gas bill are little bit increase but they can save more for food fee.

2) Insurance is mostly ranged between these values; depend on how many citizens (people) living in Ibaraki area.

3) Mostly Indonesian student use Softbank provider, because free call service to another Softbank user. For Softbank iPhone use: price for basic white plan is about 6.000¥, not including phone price (only monthly service fee and unlimited internet). Can be cheaper if use only keitai (not smartphone)

4) Transportation fee every week must be allocated for Moslem student (for going to Tsukuba masjid), and/or transportation for Indonesian student community, sometimes held in Tsukuba (because mostly Indonesian student live at Tsukuba~Tsukuba University).
